  • Mother Tongue, a new pressing plant, label, distributor and online shop in Verona, Italy, is launching on May 4th. It's the work of Patrick Gibin, the Verona-based DJ and producer who is part of the Sounds Familiar crew and put out an EP called Cloud Nine on Eglo Records earlier this year. Mother Tongue is an "EU-funded project aimed at supporting independent artists and labels in the jungle of vinyl releases today," the press release days. The company will take a "relationship-based approach… trying to fill the gap between who is making music, who is pressing it, distributing it and selling it." Mother Tongue's label arm will kick off with an album from Tommaso Cappellato, who has been remixed by Italian techno mainstay Donato Dozzy. The label describes Cappellato's Butterflying LP as "eight tracks that float from lo-fi hip-hop to free jazz and from downtempo electronica to ambient music." Butterflying is out on May 16th, with a limited 7-inch sampler available at Mother Tongue's grand opening party on May 4th. Following the grand opening of Mother Tongue, Gibin, Cappellato, Kaidi Tatham and Volcov will play an afterparty at Roots Corte Radisi. Listen to clips from Butterflying.
